Description

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Intraoral Massage is a specialized therapeutic technique used to relieve tension, pain, and dysfunction in the muscles surrounding the joint. This massage targets the muscles inside the mouth, including the masseter, medial pterygoid, and lateral pterygoid, which are often involved in TMJ dysfunction. During treatment, the therapist wears gloves and accesses the jaw muscles by gently placing a finger inside the mouth, applying precise pressure and massage techniques to the affected areas. This approach helps: • Release deep tension in the jaw • Decrease joint delay • Improve articular disc alignment and mobility of joint • Decrease accumulated hypertonicity and optimize positioning of the temporomandibular joint • Decrease pain associated with clenching, grinding, or misalignment • Alleviate headaches, facial & neck tension, and ear discomfort TMJ intraoral massage is especially beneficial for individuals who experience jaw pain, clicking or popping, limited jaw movement, chronic headaches, or stress-related clenching. It is often used as part of a holistic treatment plan in coordination with other modalities such as physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or dental support.
